Central Mountain Tour
Our first stop is the Sangeh Monkey Forest, a sacred sanctuary dating back to the 17th century. This ancient forest, home to towering nutmeg trees that can grow up to 40 meters high, is closely tied to Balinese mythology. According to legend, the trees were planted by divine forces and were meant to be part of a royal temple complex before mysteriously taking root in Sangeh. At the heart of the forest lies Pura Bukit Sari, a temple established during the reign of the Kingdom of Mengwi. Here, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit a local school, where you can engage with students by teaching English and supporting their education by purchasing handmade souvenirs.
Next, we’ll welcome you into our traditional Balinese compound, where you’ll gain insight into daily Balinese life, family traditions, and the spiritual significance of house temples that serve as the heart of every home.
From there, we’ll embark on an adventure to a hidden waterfall, descending 493 stone steps into the lush rainforest. This secluded oasis offers an untouched glimpse of Bali’s natural beauty, where the sound of cascading water blends with the calls of tropical birds, creating an unforgettable jungle experience.
Continuing our journey, we’ll pass through a picturesque village, where you can take in stunning countryside views of rolling hills and rice paddies, reflecting Bali’s deep agricultural heritage.
Next, we’ll visit Ulun Danu Bratan Temple, an iconic water temple built in 1633 by King I Gusti Agung Putu of Mengwi. Dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of lakes and rivers, this floating temple is a spiritual center for Bali’s subak irrigation system, which has sustained rice farming for centuries. Set against the tranquil waters of Lake Bratan, this temple is one of the most photographed and revered sites on the island.
Our final stop will be the breathtaking Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases Bali’s ancient subak irrigation system, dating back to the 9th century. Here, you can walk through the cascading terraces, admire the harmonious blend of nature and human ingenuity, and learn about the traditional rice farming methods still practiced by local farmers today. The serene landscape of Jatiluwih offers a perfect conclusion to our journey, leaving you with a deep appreciation for Bali’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
